Sci-fi Movies of 1992

Welcome to 1992! This was the year of Hurricane Andrew, NAFTA, Ross Perot, The Earth Summit, and The LA Riots. Aladdin was the number one movie of the year. There were no science fiction films on the list of highest grossing films of that year. It was also the 50th anniversary of Captain America.

Alien 3 (Sci-fi Horror Aliens) This movie undoes the movie Aliens and has a very depressing beginning. Ripley thinks she is the only survivor when her escape pod crashes onto a penal colony planet full of only men. She isn't because she unknowingly brought an alien with her who causes havoc on the planet. I only liked it because of Charles Dance. The setting of the penal colony was also interesting.

Bad Channels (Sci-fi Comedy Aliens) This looks like a crappy direct to video movie about aliens using a radio station to lure women to them to star in music videos and then they shrink them into tubes. A DJ tries to stop them but no one believes in. Martha Quinn from Mtv is in it.

Critters 4 (Sci-fi Horror Aliens) This movie is about the Critter aliens but now they are in the future and in SPAAACE!!

Freejack (Sci-fi Dystopian) Freejack is famous for having Mick Jagger play one of the villains. It has some good ideas that are poorly executed. In the future, people achieve immortality by hiring time travelers to steal people in the past right before their deaths. Our hero is a race car driver who was taken right before his death to the future, but he escapes. Those who escape are called "Freejacks".

Honey I Blew Up the Kid! (Sci-fi Family Comedy Mad Science) Wayne Szalinski accidentally blows up his toddler to a giant after shrinking his kids three years earlier. I hated this movie!

The Lawnmower Man (Sci-fi Horror Mad Science Virtual Reality) The only good thing I can say about this movie is that it stars Pierce Brosnan. It is a poorly directed mess of a movie. Pierce Brosnan plays a scientist who gives a simple minded young mad super intelligence. The new super intelligent man becomes aggressive and wants to become a digital being desiring to rule the world.

Memoirs of an Invisible Man - (Sci-fi Comedy Mad Science) Directed by John Carpenter, this movie is about a stock analyst who becomes invisible due to an accident. I remember watching this movie but I don't remember any details other than Chevy Chase wearing glasses and wrapping cloth around his body so that he could be seen.

Mindwarp (Sci-fi Post Apocalyptic Horror Virtual Reality) Earth in the future has been destroyed because of the loss of the Ozone layer. Most of the population that survived are mutant monsters except for a small group of humans. The humans live in a dome where they live out their virtual reality fantasies. Let me save you- It was all a dream!!!

Mom and Dad Save the World - (Sci-fi Comedy, Space Opera) This is an unfunny movie that bombed so badly, I never heard of it until last year. It was written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon who did Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. It is supposed to be a Flash Gordon parody.

Nemesis (Cyberpunk) It is about a Cyborg Assassin who must kill his former lover. I haven't seen this one so I can't comment on it.

Neon City (Post Apocalyptic) This movie stars Michael Ironside and Vanity. The Earth was destroyed through environmental destruction. A bounty hunter captures a woman who must be taken to Neon City. They must make the journey through the dangerous wasteland full of mutant killers. I thought it was boring.
